hey i am not new at svcds, but however i have come up to a problem which i cannot seem to fix. After extracting the .mpg file out of the svcd using daemon, i go from having 8gigs of free HD space to having 3, even though everything but the extracted .mpg file has been deleted. heres a step by step process of what i am doing...

    1. extract image from .rar files
    2. mount image with Daemon Tools
    3. copy .mpg file from svcd
    4. unmount image and delete the .rars and the image file

after i have done this i see that i have lost free disk space. is there any way to fix this problem??? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The process is possibly using temporary space, which insteady of being reclaimed is ending up filling your recycle bin, or in a temp file (check your Windows temp directory).
