Ok, I just called supermediastore.com and they lady said I cant use the Ritek at 2x because it works only with 1.31 firmware. I kinda doubt this but I ordered the optodisk 50 pack this time. I dont want 50 coasters. Whats the scoop?
Thanks,

In f/w after 1.31 they took Ritek out of the allowed 2x burning list (for unknown reasons). You'll need a patched firmware if you want to try and burn at 2x on those discs.
I suggest firmware-flash.com to search if you go that route... -
Well thats absolutely retarded. Way to go pioneer. Now I wish I had a Soney 500 series...idiots. Thanks for the reply.

Depends on how you look at it I guess.. If they were truly having issues burning the Ritek at 2x (as some people with patched firmware have reported) then I guess it's better that they locked it out.
It's true that so far the Sony seems to be burning more media at 2x, but it seems like Pioneer has always erred on the side of caution over actual marketing hype
Maybe someone who knows the back story will speak up. As for myself the only 2x burns I've been consistently happy with have been with authentic TDK 2x bulk media. -
GOOD NEWS FOLKS!!!
If you have a Pioneer DVR-104 or A04, check the following website
firmwares.co.uk
It has all the V1.40 updated firmwares that will let you burn 2X speed with a 1X media....I'm not kidding as I've been burning 2X speed on a 0.58 cent Princo 1X media and 0.91 cent Ritek 1X Media
I hope this helps a lot of people save some money
