  1. I cannot figure this out! I just got my ADVC-100 and can't get it to capture. I get no picture in the preview screen like it is not even hooked up or something. I used the help guide and it didn't give me any clues either. Are there any other programs someone would reccomend I should try to capture with just to make sure this thing works.

BTW I am using a JVC GR-DVF10 camera and using the S-video connector with RCA's for audio if that matters

  2. How did you connect to your PC ? firewire port buil-in in your motherboard? No, you can not use firewire of M/B (I regret to buy a M/B with firewire port, it waste money for you have to buy an IDE firewire card to capture video anyhow). I bought Soundblaster Audigy 1 card and plug into one of my IDE slot then it works fine.

I can't get Premiere to see any of my firewire stuff (Canopus ADVC-100, JVC camcorder) even after Adobe's flaky uninstall/reinstall advice.

Capture with something else, then import into Premiere if you have the patience.

    Regards,

Premiere should 'recognize' the FireWire Video-device.
In your case, you should somewhere set/install a setting there is a video-in comming from Firewire.
Look into your Premiere manual for more details.

The preview in Premiere won't appear until you clicked the menu-item "File | Capture".
You also must set the preferences of the capture-device in Premiere (where does it come from).

  6. OK now I got it to capture, but only with the ADVC set to Analog. I am using a DV camera so why would it select Analog? My camera is a JVC GR-DVF10. I would think that this will hurt the quality of movies I am going to make right?

if you have a DV camera -- you dont need the advc100 .. just hook the camera up directly .. plus the thier were a lot of bugs in 6.0 re: DV , which were supposed to be fixed in 6.5 (but some people tell me that 6.5 is buggy also - i dont know)

    jw33,

Thats the nature of the ADVC-100. ..It auto switches to the Digital mode.
Every time you first turn on the unit, it auto senses for a type of signal,
and the end result is that it sets to Digital.
So, whenever you first turn on the unit, just remember to press the little
gray button to turn it to Analog.

Does NOT mean you are analoging, but that it is sencing an analog, even
if you cam is sending pricely Digital, hence your DV cam. I have the
same problem when I connect my DV cam to it. No big deal. And, no need
to get mad at the device just becuase it's confused. It works flawless.

If you don't want to get confused any more, then just flip the unit over and
flip a dip switch, and the unit will alays go into Analog mode, and you
    wont be confused any mores.
