  1. Finally after all the searching the net, and scrambling from store to store...I have come across the combo that gives me what I want....the skinny: I have a DVD player capable of playing miniDVDs(and of course everything in between), which so far I have been able have 1800 bps video, 192 audio WITH DD5.1!!...which allows a typical movie to fit on 2 CDRs...not w/o a glitch though...but Id say Im 90% there..I dont want seem like I bragging..so I'll end there, if anyone wants to know more..just ask

Also, if any has any experience with the GE1101P please let me know as well..

  4. No prob guys..here's the run down

    - Smartripper to rip DVD, I only do stream process here. I demux the audio straight to AC3, and vob the video
    - DVD2AVI to prepare a TMPG project for video. I do my cutting & a lil luminance filter here.
    - Softencode to change the AC3 file from whatever high bitrate to 192 bps
    - TMPG to encode the dvd2avi project to mpeg-2 DVD complaint video. I have many personal settings, not going to list all, will give you template if ya want. I usually try to stay around the 1800 bps range for video in order to fit a typical 2 hour movie on 2 80min CDRs. Usually get very good quality from this. I would say it looks closer to VCD than SVCD, but the differences are very minimal to my bad eyes LOL.
    - SpruceUp to make miniDVD image which compiles my audio & video, then spits out a miniDVD image.
    - Nero to burn that image onto a CDR(W)
    - GE1101P DVD player (with latest minDVD firmware upgrade) plays miniDVD.

Issues I am having is getting sync straight in SpruceUp & getting hesitation/pixelation probs during playback about 20% of the time. However, someone is suppose to be responding to me about the latter of these 2. I could use DVDit, I know how to clear up the sync here, but it onl;y does 2 channel AC3, download Scenarist (sp?) right now to see what it offers up. But this is as close as I have been in the past 2-3 weeks Ive been trying to do this.

I use SpruceUp too and have come across that on some mpeg2 files there is a stuttering, followed by unsyncing (is that a word??). As one can make mpeg1 DVD's I have tried this and had no problems at all. I am wondering if this is a known bug in Spruceup as in DVDit/MyDVD?

kdiddy, its an extremely daunting task but I strongly recommend that you learn scenarist and use it exclusively to author your mini-dvds. It is simply the best dvd authoring software available and is in fact the software that most professional dvds are authored with. I guess its overkill if you dont do alot of complicated menu structures but still, using it will probably solve all your problems. Unfortunately it is a very difficult program to figure out.

  9. yeah thats what I was afraid of..but will probably undertake it anyways..yeah I dont need the menus & all that jazz...Im a stick it & play kinda guy...f*ck all that fourplay crap..LOL..o well will try it out

  10. Well through more test..I learned that lowering my bitrate caused the sttutering to stop...however, of course I sacrificed quality in return...I suspect this dvd-rom drive still sees the CDR & thinks VCD, and thus spins the disk only fast enough for VCD playback, even though the firmware hack forces the processor to play in DVD mode...in any case, I basically have good VCD w/ 5.1 DD surround..so Im happy, although I want to check out the Daewoo DVG-3000N at Sams Club that supposely plays miniDVDs straight out the box....and hoping it spins the disk faster for higher bitrates...if so then wal-mart is getting a return on this one.. ..

Adam: I would love to learn Scenarist...seeing as how I need a Serial Key..that no one seems to willing give up..Im stuck with SpruceUP with no way to fix sync issues

Lastly, what is better for bitrate video of around 1500-2000, mpeg-1 or mpeg-2
