  1. What you are about to read is not to be taken with a pinch of salt ! Or is it ?

Now, don't get me wrong, I have seen what you are about to read below posted on a site in the USA ! Read on...........

You are bidding for a link that will take you to a website where you can buy a Sony DRX500UL Dual DVD+RW/-RW External Drive for only $65! I am not selling the actual drive, but rather the information where you can buy this drive.
This drive retails for over $400, and will only cost you $65 with free shipping! The only catch is that there may by a wait anywhere from a few weeks to three months. But you can hardly refuse when you are saving nearly $400 on a top DVD-RW/+RW drive!

The company even offers a money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied. PLEASE DO NOT bid if you do not intend to pay or if you are skeptical. Serious buyers only please! I will accept paypal or postal money orders only. Money orders must be received within 7 days and paypal payments must be received within 48 hours. You WILL be satisfied with this link!

Now the question is this -- Is it a scam to con us ?

Has anyone seen such a post anywhere ?

Well I have, Ebay of all places in the USA !!

Has anyone actually placed a bid for this link ?

Have you got your drive for the said money ($65.00) ?

    Have you been suckered ?

I want to know if anyone has really paid the said price of $65.00 and got a drive !

Love to hear others comments on this.... cos if its true and you do get a drive, well.......... you get my drift ......

Me, I'm skeptical about this !!

  4. Amazing what people will do to suck in the nieve. $65 using PayPal or a money order. Hmm, interesting how the 'seller' wants funds in those formats. You send the money - it's in his/her pocket. Nothing gets sent back to you.

On a lighter note, it's nice to see that the Sony drive is so popular that a scam is now using it for bait.

  6. @ SonyUser, you made yourself look pretty bad by even asking a silly question like that. I'll tell you what. The ad is legit, and i'm the one that wrote it. Private message me so I can give you my home address for you to send the $65 money order. Act fast, this offer is only valid while supplies last.

  7. I read an article about this brand of scams a couple of weeks ago. Strictly speaking, it's not a scam.

I forget the details, but the seller will ship a certain number of whatever the product is every week, say 10 or even a 100. Everyone gets theirs in the order they paid for the link.

However, after a very short time the number of people waiting in line grows exponentially, making it highly unlikely you will ever get what you wanted.

Not a bad idea for whoever came up w/ it, it's not illegal, or atleast not yet, and has already raked in millions.

  8. Not illegal? Receiving payment for a product and never delivering it? Well that's about as illegal as it gets! Gimmee a break!

  10. Hey Defense,
If you did post that ad.and it is legit why not share the link with all of us?

Silly ?!!?! I got a better idea --- You send me $65.00 and I tell you where to go !

Now, anyone else who wants to be funny and stupid can also send me $65.00.

This type of selling / posting here in the UK is illegal.

This type of selling on Ebay or any other place seems like a scam and I warn others not to go near such ads or sites incase you are ripped off, but if on the otherhand someone wants to take the plunge be my guest (and don't say I did not warn you), and once you have your drive, post the link here for all to use ! (Proof that you got your drive is needed)

Ah, but the cunning thing is you are not paying for the product, you are paying for the information on how to obtain said product. Rip of I agree, Illegal ? who knows.

Firstly, may I echo the points made above.......
..........YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE INSANE TO BID ON THIS AUCTION.
    Loud enough?
Now, just a couple of points...
Paypal is now owned by Ebay, and Ebay would have to be insane not to have cleared up some of the loopholes that existed on Paypal in the past (unverified web based e-mail accounts for one).
Unlike a similar UK based payment transfer service, Nochex, Paypal is paid via your credit card and importantly, under UK law, you have the right to a refund if you don't get your goods (I can verify this, I got stung but recieved a refund six weeks later - to the day).
As Craig said, all this scum-sucking molasc is doing is giving you *information* on where to buy, if you find the unit is out of stock and not available so what, it's not his fault!
Definatley a scam and I lean towards the opinion (and I appreciate my knowledge is UK construction law, not civil or crown) that this is neither illegal nor unlawful (depending on your tilt )

  15. A note about eBay auctions for 'information':

I believe that these types of auctions are actually considered invalid under official eBay rules. I haven't verified that, but I do believe that to be the case. eBay support staff could probably spend months though going through all posted auctions to find these. Personally, I don't pay money for the hope of getting something down the road (scam or not). I expect to get what I pay for. I paid my $350 for the Sony burner and feel it's been worth every penny!

That being said, I am willing to take anybody's $65, if they just want to throw it away.

Actually, I was trying to be as nice as possible when I said "silly." I really wanted to say you're a true sucker to even ask that question on this forum. Too bad you didn't send me out that money order. I could of put it towards my next purchase of ACCU DVD-R media.

Now, anyone else who wants to be funny and stupid can also send me $65.00
. Oh, then send yourself the money order. You are lucky that some of the people on this forum even took the time to reply to that post and save your silly arse from losin' $65.

Yea, that was technically called a "pyramid scheme" and believe it or not, those still exist in some form or another. Again, it's only for real "suckers" and people do get paid out of the pyramid scheme, but it's ONLY the people that originate the scheme and that are at the VERY top of the pyramid. I'm sure SonyUsers participated in a few of them in their lifetime.

  18. Ther were also some kind of deals for 25$ PS/2 and XBOX. it's not
    just dvdrw's.

it also reminded me that dead Web site "free after rebate" or something,
wher you buy product, paying full price and then they give money back
to you in 6-12 months. i worked but at the end it went bankcrupt and all
naive user were screwed. that was few years ago.
