Hey everyone..
I was wondering if there is anything i can do with a DVD-RW that will NOT erase with Nero.. I always get "Burn Failure" regardless of which option i chose.. "quick" or "full"
Any other appz that are freeware.. or easytogetware that will erase a DVD-RW?
And do you think that it will even make a difference if Nero can't do it?
The RW has only been re-written less then 10 times

me too. I have two Verbatim DVD-RW and each has been used less than 10 times, and both are toast!! Neither will erase now. if I try to go straight to burn I get an error.

Yep, I have experienced this twice.
One disc I salvaged using the recording engine in Ulead's DVD Movie Workshop (just import a clip into the package, jumped straight to the write disc menu and clicked on the "erase DVD" button), and the other time Nero wouldn't erase it from the "erase media" option but DID record perfectly when I tried to record on the disc without blanking it first. A dialogue box comes up on the later version saying the disc is not blank, and asks if you wish to erase the disc. Try selecting yes and just letting it record as usual. I have not had any further problems with this method, so maybe the erase media option is a little quirky and overwriting the data "masks" any problem that may arise in trying to erase the media.
Incidentally, since re-writable media theoretically has a finite number of times the crystaline structure can be changed before it starts breaking down and becomes unreliable, you could argue that unnecessary "full" erases are shortening the life of the media - sure, a quick erase and subsequent re-record is still hammering the beginning of the disc, but erasing the disc more than you have to in order to re-use it is probably not required in most cases. If Nero will let you effectively "record over" the media, then let it do so. Chances are you will be OK, and if you copy that disc again, it will stop at the lead out point, and any data that may exist on the disc beyond that will be ignored on all the subsequent copies. -
wow, that is interesting. I just bought a new pack, this time Memorex, hope they fare better.

I've had about 3 white label -rw toasty discs. First 2 worked ok the first time but couldn't erase them. Third one had error writing first time & couldn't erase - even doing full erase.
Pitty, 'cos I thought they were going to be great (cheap) media.
