Hi all,
Some of you have encoded video streams with external utilities, and when you want to author the DVD with Ulead DVD WS, you find that it will reencode the video again, no matter wich profile you use. I have found one reason for this:
If you have one video stream (.m2v) let's say 3,5 GB and one audio stream (.wav) 1,5 GB, DVD-WS will reencode the video because 3,5 GB + 1,5 GB is over the capacity of a DVD+-R... Even if the audio file, once encoded in MPEG2 would be smaller than 800 MB so it could fit in one DVD.
So the solution is: encode the audio track into a MP3 and you'll see that, no matter wich profile you use, DVD-WS will not reencode. You can also encode the audio stream into mpeg 1 layer 2, and in this way Ulead will not need to encode the audio track, just remux the VOB files and add the IFO/BUP.
I found this when I was doing some tests to see if I can use DVD WS to make back ups of DVDs. If someone is interested, using Smartripper, Headhac3e and DVD WS you can copy DVDs very easiliy (and even add your own menus).
