  1. I have a solution for the error with Recordnow MAX when it refuses to burn a DVD-R because the AUDIO_TS or VIDEO_TS files do not conform to the DVD specification. This error occurs because Recordnow MAX actually reads the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and checks to see if all the corresponding VOB files exist. This would normally not be the case when ripping and burning DVD-9 DVDs via the manual way i.e smartripper/decrypter, IFOedit (split to 2 discs option) etc.

Anyway, the workaround is to copy the appropriate missing IFO files and zero length associated VOB files to the relevant disc. This should not be a problem since the files are small in size. Using this method allows you to burn with RecordNow MAX. When you play back the DVD, the player will just ignore the zero length VOB (depending on the player of course and/or original DVD authoring).

For the doom slayers - yes I know NERO allows you to just burn baby burn - but I just get coasters with the version I have. I have had no problems with any disc created with Recordnow MAX. And yes I know you can just re-encode but I prefer to have an exact copy of the original DVD.

Just my 2 cents - someone might find it useful.

  2. Have you tried unchecking recognize video_ts and audio_ts checkbox under options. I don't think it will error if it's not checking. anyway, i've unchecked it and haven't had anymore problems.

  3. Yeah I tried that but I had play back problems. I'm not sure whether Recordnow MAX thinks it's writing a DVD-ROM when the option is not checked.

    Does any one know?

  4. I leave them checked, but I haven't had any problems with my Maestro compiled projects. What method are you using?

I agree, RecordMax has been known to be more compatible. I have had a problem with RecordMax 4.5 still recording at 2x on my cheap Accu DVD-R to my DRU500A when I had selected 1x in the options, project screen, and 1x was showing in the burn dialog screen, yet it still burned at 2x and causes playback problems with those cheap DVDRs. In that case, I used Nero to force 1x, which worked. RecordNow DX may not have this same bug.

  5. As I said earlier, I rip a DVD to my hard drive and use IFOedit to split to 2 discs per the guide in doom9.com. Then I manually move the additional appropriate video titlesets to either disc 1 or disc 2 dependant on available space. Hence the descrepancy with the VIDEO_TS.IFO file not having the correct number of VOB files defined. DVDs authored with tools like maestro etc will not exhibit this problem. The problem is just the side effect of "hacking" DVD-Rs.

Recordnow MAX DX 4.6 does not appear to have the 1x bug. I have specified 1x and that's what it burns at using my DRU500a and ACCU media. One thing I have noticed is that when using TDK 2x DVD+RW media it still writes at 2x regardless if I specify 1x. But this is not a problem for me because it take 25 minutes of burning time for approximately 60 minutes of video - and it still plays in my Panasonic RP82.
