Okay... I've got a 4.7 DVD-R that has movie on it. No menus or anything fancy, just 6 scenes on one title. I've got a handful of DVD-Rs that are 4.7GB.
I want to make an exact copy of it, what is the easiest and most compatible way to do so?
Compatible is more important than easy.
Please let me know asap.
Thanks,
Flip

Use this application called DVDBackup 1.3 works great and you can download it from www.macupdate.com. Also a great site to keep track of your apps.

Does this program rip, encode, mux, and output? or just make a direct copy?
IE, are the results of the DVD going to be out of synch or anything?
Thanks,

if you want to make a direct copy theres a simple and sure way to copy:
Use toast , press copy button ...done
if you don't have toast there's a bit difficult way to copy:
Use apple DISK COPY in MacOSX /applications/utility
1st STEP
-choose from file menu "new image from device"
-choose your source disk from panel
-choose destination directory (you need 4,7 Gb Free space)
-IMPORTANT!:don't forget to set format to MASTER CD/DVD
2nd STEP
-choose from file menu Burn image
-chose the file you created in step one

Yes, if it's an unencrypted dvd (like a dvd-r, NOT a commercially pressed dvd), then you can just use Toast copy, Disk Copy, or just drag the contents of the dvd to your hard drive, and burn as a new dvd in Toast (make sure you keep the folder hierarchy the same, with VIDEO_TS folder in the root directory of a new DVD with the title of the movie (no_spaces). If you don't want to worry about that, yeah just use Toast's 'Copy' function, and then (if you only have 1 dvd drive) choose 'Save as Disk Image' in the File menu (command-D) to make an image. Then, put Toast in Disk Image mode and drag the image over Toast's window (or choose 'select' and navigate to it) and burn to a new DVD-R. DVD Backup is not needed for this, but only for commercial DVDs with CSS encryption and macrovision.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
