Hi,

I am trying to covert a DVD to SVCD/VCD (I don't really care which one - as long as I can get one of them to work), and am having a fair amout of trouble. These are the steps I have basically followed using 0sex and ffmpex (latest version I think):

1. Ripped dvd with 0sex
2. Encoded to m2v (mpeg2) with QT decode and mplayer decode boxes unchecked (I am from Australia-PAL - the manual said this was ok)
3. I basically end up with a functional .m2v file and a functional .mp2 file. So the ripping and converting process has gone fine (I think).

This is where I go wrong in both ways that I try:

SVCD
-I then split and postprocess and come out with an appropriate number of .img files (authored as SVCD) and then I burn two each of these (for however many discs) using toast.

The problem is that the dvd player only recognises the cd as a cd. When I burn just the fist .img file (the header with no video), the dvd player recognises it as a videocd. So there seems to be a problem with the way toast burns the cd. When i do a disk check under toast it always shows that the .img 2 file has been burnt before the .img 1 file and so i don't know if the dvd player can't find the .img 1 file??

VCD
-I thought I would then try and postprocess and author as a bin/cue file and burn using toast. When I do this, I do actually get an image and sound on the TV (using the DVD player), but the image is squeezed to the left of the screen with a large area (almost 1/2) of empty black on the right side. I have tried fiddling with aspect ratios, etc and nothing seems to give me a full picture.

I would love to be able to get watchable VCD/SVCDs, but am obviously doing something dramatically wrong. Can someone help?
