I finally managed to rip a TV show recorded on DVD using one of the guides (http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm). I would like to suggest to the author to include an extra step for those converting from a DVD rip (suggested elsewhere on this site http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=138548).
I have a couple of questions. After ripping the VOB and opening in VirtualDub, if I need to cut out parts (commercials, intros, etc.), should I do this before or after converting? If I cut after converting, should I resave the file with or without recompressing?
Another question: my final AVI was 702x480/29.97fps. Is this correct? In the DivX 5.0.3 codec (standard), the Profiles tab has boxes asking the resolution and framerate of the video. Is it asking about my original VOB or the final AVI? I put in 720x480/30fps.
Any help down the road to enlightenment would be appreciated.
