I authored a dvd, menus and all, took quite a while. And when I went to record it did all the demuxing, etc..and then said cannot record disc of this type. I have a Verbatim DVD+Producer and tried using bith Verbatim AND FujuFilm DVD+r's. When I select what type of disc I want to record to the choice I see is DVD-R, DVD-RW, or DVD+RW...there is no choice for DVD+r. Now I assumed originally that if it said DVD+RW that also included +R's, but then I noticed that BOTH DVD-R and DVD-RW was shown. Anyone else have this problem

If you're not willing to spend money on another authoring software, here's one option. It's not a straight answer to your problem though, and I'm not sure if this is available for you, as I stopped using DVDit at this point.
Instead of having DVDit 'burn' your authored video, just have her create an image. After that, use NERO or whatever burning software you have (as long as it supports DVD burning, and your +R burner).
hope this helps.
