Bitsetter for DRU500a?

I have a DRU500a, works great, just......
My DVD player (Philips DVD710) doesn't read +R, only +RW.
As far as I know the problem could be the 'book-type' bitsetting. Does anybody know how to set the book-type for the Sony DRU500a to DVD-Rom??
About the DVDBitsetter software, it says this on the site ( http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings.html#pc:)

PLEASE NOTE: For now, the tools will not work on next generation products, such as Sony DRU500, NEC ND-1100 or any other new (4x DVD+R) drives.....

Anybody ideas or tried it anyway???

It will not work as stated there due to hardware restrictions made by the manufacturers.
