I can get Vegas Video 3 for $162. i also see there is VideoFactory for $52. Are either of these two worth it, or should I stick with teh old reliable VD and TMPGEnc and IuVCR?
Thanks

I have Vegas Video 2.0h and 3, it is a great program. I use it primarily for the video that I capture, Sateilite, Vhs. The Vcd's that i get are really good quality. the 2.0 versoin used ligos for the MPEG encoding, the 3.0 uses MainConcept for the MPEG. I think 4.0 uses MainConcept too.
I have found that it does not like the divx codec and I use TMPGEnc for everything else. -
I have vegas video 4 beta, vegas 3, vegas 2. It is the best damn program written and it still has huge areas to improve.
But sony bought the rights to continue to distribute vegas 3 and I saw it already on the shelf for $69. full version.
I use it in a recording studio-- tremendous editing ability to make a bad musician good. good for video too, but if you wish to use it for copying DVD's use smartripper and tmpeg -

VEGAS VIDEO is great
IT outputs MAIN CONCEPT flawless MPEG-1 & 2 If you pay extra for the plug in
IT handles MPEG-2 on the TIMELINE but not AC3
It handles DIVX on the Timeline, but not the audio portion if you used LAME or MP3...
PCM in clips however makes excellently editable stuff...
The User interface is exceedingly complex because of the multiplicity of features.
What a deal for $162
because the SONY version..at least the one my friend bought has no MPEG output is DV and Quiktime as I believe...
Of course Vegas outputs in all the older formats >cinepak, sorensen..MOV or Intel or Microsoft AVI also makes MP3's and WAV or AIFF as well as animation frames
It rocks -
as i mentioned -- the "sony" version is the older video factory (still a nice program though) -- you can buy it cheaper if you dont buy it with the sony label .. same program .

You can also get the Nova Video Explosion version of VideoFactory. It comes with myDVD and mucho content discs. Look at the screenshot; it's VF.
It's a good all-in-one entry-level NLE, but Vegas is even better.
