I am running XP Pro with the latest versions of Nero Burning Rom and Nero Vision Express. I succesffully captured my video from my Sony DV cam and firewire (nero recognizes it as "Microsoft DV camera or VCR").
I then burned two DVDs with no audio. Used the IFOedit trick to work around that problem and finally burned a good DVD with LPCM audio detected.
Here is where I ran into a problem: I downloaded Windows Media Player 9 and Windows Movie Maker 2 from the update site. I then did a fresh video capture using Win Movie Maker 2. I burned the resulting .avi file using Nero vision express to DVD. The result was a wavy video with distortions.
So I thought that maybe I needed to install the latest Adaptec ASPI layers (4.72a). Installed the ASPI layers (wnaspi32.dll & aspi32.sys) and used aspichk to verify install. Next I did a new video captue using Nero VE again and then burned it to a hard disk folder. Same result, wavy distorted video. Since my hard disk is Ultra 160 SCSI on Adaptec 19160 host adapter I thought that might be the problem. So I tried again to burn to another IDE hard disk on my system. Same bad result.
The .avi file plays crystal clear so I know it is something in the transcoding/burning process. Thinking it was an ASPI layer conflict between Nero aspi and Adaptec Aspi I removed the Adaptec Aspi layers from my system and deleted the registry entries. Re-booted my computer and tried again from scratch with Nero VE with same bad result.
So now I can only conclude that the download of either Movie Maker 2 or Media Player 9 changed something in my system to cause this to happen. When I copy my good video from the DVD and play it back from hard disk it plays fine. By the way, the Nero Info Tool detects the Adaptec aspi drivers as being corrupted. Originally XP Pro did not install any Aspi layers and everything worked fine. Do you really need Aspi Layers in XP Pro? Especially since Nero uses it's own?
