  1. I've been looking for a caputure card. I mostly want to capture from my analog video camera and tv sometimes. I was looking at the pvr card. Just wanted to be for sure it will be able to do what i really need it to do.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey, why not click on the "Capture Cards" link to the left, sort by "Top User Rated", then read the "Comments" for features and check the "Price".

No real specifics included here, so nobody can really help too much. You haven't specified your price range, final output requirements (and hence resolution & bitrate requirements)

Perhaps a $50 TV Tuner card would be sufficient ?

  3. I've been through that capture card link about a million times. It was very helpful to me. As with everything everyone is going to have ups and downs with their cards so I was just want to get a few last ideas on other cards before I went out and got the pvr 250

Will you capture just to watch it on your PC or do you want to eventually burn on DVD? If you want to burn DVDs, I recommend the WinTV PVR-250. I got it two days ago and it kicks a$$!!

I captured a 90min program using a variable bitrate between 4000 and 8000 and have to say the result was excellent. The PVR-250 has excellent capture quality. I may capture at higher bitrates for shorter-length projects.

  5. Take a look at the AverDVD EZMaker. It's cheap ($50 IIRC) captures as avi, MPEG1 o MPEG2. Fairly certain it's the basic bt878 chipset. Comes with neoDVD standard software which captures in:

    low 352x240
    medium 352x480
    high 720x480

However to get the 'on the fly' MPEG compression you'll need at least a 1ghz machine. This card is basic but it gets the job done, quickly and easily.
