If I have an AVI file that I either downloaded, or captured myself using my ADS Instant Video CD hardware, if the original source had Macrovision protection, will my AVI or MPEG files still have that Macrovision? If I were to play the AVI/MPEG on my Nvidia card with TV-Out and send this picture to my VCR, can I record it to tape?
If Macrovision is retained in these files, is there a program that can be used to strip it out?
Thanks,
DigitalMan

Not sure whether it retains the Macrovision protection, but I can tell you this, I have an Nvidia Xtasy Everything card with TV out. When I got my dvd drive, I wanted to TV out from my computer while playing a commercial dvd. The macrovision was enabled, however, using PowerDvd, If you just play a few seconds of the dvd on your computer only, then pause it, you can then go to the Clone view under the advanced properties and enable your TV out and it will play on the Tv and allow recording on a vcr.

On DVDs with CP (like MV), the MV Signal is generated outside the video file.During authoring, there are instructions, which will command the MV circuit inside the DVD player to produce the signal. On PC there are 2 possibilities;1. the SW player doesn't play the DVD at all, if TV Out is enabled or 2. if the video chips contains a MV generator, it will play on TV out, but with MV generated thru the Video DAC.
With TV-Tool, you can circumvent both methods. -
The Macrovision signal is in the vertical sync interval, which is NOT captured by any capture card. However, it can still mess up the capturing because it can interfere with the vertical sync and/or video gain circuit of the capture card.

I think the original post was not about capturing to the PC, but recording from the PC.
During Capturing, I can see the MV signal's presence thru pink lines wandering thru the frames. With DScaler, I'm able to remove them all.
