  1. I have been reading the site and i want to make sure that I know how to do this. To make a dvd to SVCD I must.

    1. Rip the DVD
    2. Convert the DVD to AVI
    3. Spilt the AVI file into 2 parts one for each CD
    4. Burn the movie.

Can someone check my steps to be sure that I have them right?

  2. DVD2SVCD can make an SVCD from DVD without creating an AVI, but I'm not too sure about quality/speed. Anyway, you don't need to cut the AVI in two. Normally, you use a frameserver (VirtualDub, AVISynth...) to resize the video in order to keep the aspect ratio. You can then either set up the frameserver or the encoder to process only a certain part of the movie by entering the correct source range. Or, the easiest way would be to convert the entire AVI to one large MPEG file, then cut in the middle.
If you don't want to frameserve but load the AVI directly into TMpegEnc (if you use it) and convert/multiplex audio and video in one step, you have to be very lucky with the source file because (as far as I know) no encoder is able to resize the video by itself.

    So, your steps should be:
    1.) Rip the DVD
2.) Convert video to AVI, audio to AC3, then MP2
3.) Frameserve and convert video to MPEG1/2
    4.) Multiplex, cut, burn

You can find tutorials on every step somewhere around here (if you need any, that is).
