    Hi

I was wondering what the smallest file i could ctreate from an mpeg2 file whilst keeping a very high quality. I understand from some of the articles that converting to ASF is very good - is there anything better?

    thanks for any help

Converting an Mpeg 2 to "Any" Mpeg 1, would reduce is size, but converting it to Mpeg 4 would be even better.

Chose any of the popular codecs, DivX 3.11 alpha, DivX 5, M$ Mpeg 4, they will all reduce the file right down.

Don't use ASF, as you might want to edit it later

    Hi

Im not gonna edit it later - if seen files with .asf extensions - the quality is superb and the file size is the smallest ive seen - the windows media encoder v4.1 is not on the net (the link does not work) where can i get that from.

How about DV - is that any good - what tools would i use there ?

    regards

Then use AVi with M$ MPEG 4 V3 almsot the same thing...

Where to download, well its still on M$ site, do a search for it there.

  5. I'd stay away from the v3.11 a codec. Sounds like you want to go WMV anyways, so get the latest windows media encoder off microsoft and have fun. Takes a while to encode mind you. Personally, I'm sticking to DivX 5 Pro.

  6. DV avi is used to capture from Digital Video camcorders through firewire. It takes too much space (about 200MB per minute) it is not good for archiving but very high in quality.

    Why ?

Considering its the most used codec for many years, why would you not want to use it ?
