  1. i've read thru this board but haven't found any references to this problem...

    last week, i spun 9 or 10 DVDs using the A05 -- they all appeared to burn without hitch. however, the other day, i was watching one of the movies and noticed a 2-3 second freeze that wasn't in the original. i simply reburned the DVD using the same image and the problem disappeared.

    while i was making the DVDs noted above, i was preparing some menus using photoshop (which is processor intensive). but i didn't think that this would effect the burning process.

    from past experience, i've learned the while capturing video my via 1394 port that i need to kill all none essential processes, disconnect from ethernet, kill anti-virus software, etc. (yes, even on a 2.7Gig system). this will ensure no dropped frames.

    sooo, my question is -- do i need to take the same care while burning DVDs as capturing video? in other words, can running other processes ruin a burn?

    thanks!

    In the earlier days of CD writers, all those precautions were indeed necessary to avoid problems/coaster (certainly when buring audio CD's)
    the dataflow with DVD movies is much higher so I guess you should stom any other programs running (even in the background) while burning;
    also: I have an electrical current stabeliser to avoid current peaks coming from other tools like freezers, washing machines etc...
    another source of trouble might be dual layer DVD's at the point of layer change

  5. thanks for the replies.

    i've actually had this occur on two media types -- one was meritline's 4x burned at 4x, the other was a brandless 1x media burned at 1x. these are the only media types that i've tried.

    i think i'll play it safe for a while and not run background tasks during the burning process. when i get different media, i'll change things up and see if that makes a difference.
