i think all the fuss of it all is the price and time it takes to be release officially 6 months is a joke!! and just reasntly there has been a growing amout of "DVD screeners" that are on the internet before the movie is out in the cinema. Plus i was pretty anoyed about movies being released on DVD in the US before they are even released in the cinema in the UK. I think Everthing should be downloadable for a cheap price and released at the same time to save money and invest there cash on future technology Like the super dvd or something hand held and stuff.
Non of this P2P wars. the RIAA and the Motion Picture Association of America are gunna waste any body who owns P2P software with some super virus it just boys with toys and they want to have the best ones.
they need to grow up, open there eye smell the coffee and relize that Warez is gunna exsist if there isnt an agrement. i think its is a bad idea for "pirated" movies to exist but u cant stop em!

This doesn't belong in the Feedback section.

There is no consipiracy, supply is driven by demand. Dvds take a while to come out because they want to make sure that they have exhausted its theatre potential. If they really wanted to they probably could make the DVD come out while the movie is still in theatres, but that would seriously cut into their ticket sales. Even after the movie is several months old it is still being played in the dollar cinemas. They wait til the theatre isn't profitable, then they release the dvd. Often they wait til that dvd isn't so profitable, then they release the special edition DVD. They want money, can you blame them? The more money they make the more they can invest in future productions. Did you know that a large portion of movies actually loose millions of dollars? Movie production is a giant gamble. In order for these studios to even stay in business they must maximize profits, just like every other business in the world.

The DVD screeners you talk about are obviously for internal use only. Its for presenting the movie to movie execs, promotional sponsors, Academy award judges etc... Just because these exist 6 months prior to the DVD release that doesn't mean the production studios are holding out on you or anything.

The typical person who pirates a movie does so because they don't want to pay for the movie, not because they are just unsatisfied with Hollywood's practices. Production studios are always going to cater to the people who are willing to pay for the movie. They are not going to release a DVD early just to prevent piraters from getting it somewhere else.

As for price...no I don't think DVDs are too exensive. The typical argument agaisnt this proposition is that it only takes x amount of cents to press each additional DVD so why charge $15-$20 for each one? Well the reason they cost that much is because the production studio has to make back what they invested into the movie. They spend hundreds of millions of dollars producing the movie, x million marketing it, x million distributing it ect... What they don't make in ticket sales they must make in DVD rentals and sales and through merchandise otherwise they loose money on the project.

Its all economics, if they thought they could make more money by releasing the DVDs sooner and cheaper then they would.

I voted No. I think DVDs are very resonably priced and released just when I start forgetting about the movie and start looking for it on video. Think back to the early 90s. Vhs movies then were around $100 each at our local video store. I think $9-$20 is just fine for me.

  9. I remember I hired out Black Hawk Down for a project once, crappy old VCR chewed the tape up so busted out the screw driver, popped open the VCR and recovered the tape, wound it back in and returned it. Never heard anything from video store about it
