  1. Hi.. I just got a artec 16x (48x cd)dvd-rom and so far I've ripped about 3 of my movies to HD with dvd decrypter 3.1.3. and it shows the speed of 4x at the max it starts out with 2x and does not go beyond 4 or 4.2 x read ? any idea why is this I thought it would rip at 16x or atleast close to it. I'm using default settings in dvd decrypter and My dvd-rom is installed as a master in my secondary IDE ... what is the problem ??
also I have a amd xp2000+(1.6 GHZ with 512mb ram and 80 gig HD)

"Reading" at 16x and "ripping" are different - ripping is going to go slower in about 99% of all drives. This is nothing to be alarmed about, it's par for the course. The ripping process has to do a certain amount of decoding that will prevent it from going full tilt.

    Do you have ASPI installed?

If not use forceASPI, available in tools section to your left.
May the force be with you.

  4. The fastest I've seen with my Lite-On is 7.1x(almost 8mbps).
    Here's a good comparison of DVD-ROMs:http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=dvdresults.php3

  5. it all depends on the disc type.

DVD9's I can only rip at around 5-7x with my lite-on.
    DVD5's I can rip at 14X

dc91gt is 100% correct in my exp with the liteon drive. Single layer disk rip very fast (14.xish) once aspi is installed properly. DVD9s are a bit slower.

I get 7x when I start ripping, but around 90% it mostly drops to 4x.
I never have same speed throughout the entire ripping process.

Could it be that the speed chances accordingly to the location on the disc?

  9. Ripping is NOT copying. I don't even get that high of speeds when ripping directly from and to a fast hard drive! As someone else mentioned, it's doing processing, so it all has to go through the processor. Another thing, the speed of drives vary throughout the inner to outer areas of the disk. Nothing is unusual there.
