  1. Forgive my n00b-ness, this was my first successful SVCD encode using EazyVCD. Great program!

I encoded an episode of BofB .. which is typically 1 hour or so. I set the quality to Normal and no-file-split. I figured that most people encode 2 hour movies to fit on 2 x 80min CDs. So about 1 hour per CD should be right.

After the 9 hours of EazyVCD's work, I got an MPG file that was 1.4gb!! That's almost 2 CD's for an hour long episode! That would be about 2.8gb for a 2 hour movie which would fit on 4 CDs!!!

How do you guys use the program to get the sizes down to an hour per CD?

I have never used EasyVCD, but I believe that the 1.4gig for 60min is coming from a contant bitrate (CBR) mode, rather than constant quality(CQ) or variable bitrate(VBR) mode. I believe this because if you use a 2520 kbits/sec CBR with SVCDs you get approx 35min/80min CD.

Look through the settings and see if the rate mode control is set to CBR. If it is I suggest you change it to CQ, CQ_VBR, or VBR, These should allow you to get the size down to one CD. With one CD the average bitrate will be approx 1580kbits/sec. As to the settings for this, you best ask someone else. I use almost exclusively 2-Pass VBR and I create XSVCDs which are different from SVCDs.

  3. hwoodwar, thx for your response ... it appears that in EazyVCD there is no option for VBR or CQ.

Welp I was lookin' for the easiest DVD to SVCD ... I've tried the rest, looks like I should try the best ... DVD2SVCD will be my project for the weekend.

    Thanks for your help!
