I am downloading Divx AVI files from Kazaa and converting them to MPEG with AVI2VCD. Before I convert them the AVI files are perfect DVD-like quality and are in a letter box type format.

After conversion the letterbox format is gone, and the quality is definitely not that of a Divx or a DVD.

Is there any way to maintain the quality and possibly the letterbox format after the conversion.

    HELP!

    You gave your own answer.....AVI2VCD

VCD qulaity is mediocre at best, and abysmal at worst. Try DVD2SVCD and you be MUCH happier with the results. This is based on your post, and my judgement of your current knowledge level.

To keep the "letterboxed" format, make sure you have "Full screen (keep aspect ratio)" for Video Arrange method. Set the source aspect ratio to 1:1 (VGA).

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

TMPGEnc is much better, just load a VCD template, check that the output is "Full screen > keep aspect ratio"
