  1. I encode my d/l divx movie with TMPG to mpeg2 movies
Usualy I put 2 hours of movie on 3 cd's.
Each svcd I make, stutters a bit, especially when there's many movement in the movie.

I use bitrates between 1600 en 2200, should i go higher?

What bitrate would you advice me?
Can I go lower than 1600 with TMPG?

    Thanx-a-lot!

  2. Having the same problem. Did you find the answer?
I read a post that talked about increasing motion search in TMPGEnc. Haven't tried this yet.
If you have found the answer please let me know.

Dont know if this helps, but topic "Frame duplication when converting ac-3/divx to svcd" covers something similar

  4. I used to have the same problem. Each encode would stutter just enough to be annoying. The solution for me was to scan the divx for errors in Virtualdub, demux the sound to a PCM WAV file, and then use that WAV as the sound source in virtualdub to frameserve to TMPGENC. Personally, I think it was the frameserving that did the trick for me, as I used to just load up the file into TMPGENC. I also use the highest motion search while encoding. I've gone back and reencoded several of the stuttering SVCDs from the original source using these new settings, and the quality is much better now.

    Good Luck!

    Where to start?

    1) Did you look up your player under the DVD Player section? I went through several players until I found one that would "play anything". the old ones suffered from too low and too high bitrate probelms for SVCD's.

    2) You didn't say much about the source file. Here's some tips;
    a) DVD rips only. Most of the CAM's and TS's are so noisely (video wise), your bitrate will be through the roof from background noise, much less action scenes. You may think about filtering and frameserver out of VDUB, instead of a straight conversion. Never assume that the file isn't corrupted and 'divxfixed'.
    b) 1 CD movies are fairly compressed, you can expect some artifacting and background video noise, but they shoyuld convert without jerkiness. 2 CD AVI's should make a very respectable SVCD conversion, and tend to have the AC3 soundtrack.

    3) What are your TMPGenc settings? This can something as simple as the motion search precision [high (slow) is what I use], or your bitrate setting?

    4) Does it play on your computer? Does it stutter on antoehr DVD player?

Also remember to have no explorer windows open while writing and drop your burn speed down. Same file with a successful burn at 4X plays perfect that has some stutter on the one I burned at 40X accidently, even though it also was a successful burn, so burn speed does seem to have an effect. I typically start it and go watch something else I've already burned while it takes it's 15 or 20 minutes. 8X seemed to be ok on the one I did, but I've decided to keep it to 4X since the extra time is fine when watching something else..

  7. Thanx for you comments Tarl Cabot and Gazorgan!

    I will try the frameserving.

Here is some info about the file.
I'll take one example which stutters:

James bond - die another day.
    Xvid mpeg 4 codec 608x256 @ 23.975 fps
    I've converted it directly to a Super Video-CD PAL (MPEG-2 480x576 25fps CBR +- 2100 kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

Yersterday I made the first one which didn't stutter !! , (This also means it's not my Philips 723 DVD player.)
    Talking about:

    Ali G in da house 624x336. ,25fps, divx 5.02
    also converted it direcly to a Super Video-CD PAL (MPEG-2 480x576 25fps CBR +-2300 kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

al with tmpg @ motionsearch = normal.

burnt both ali g and Bond @ 16x

I hope you can solve my problem with this info.

    THANKS FOR ANY COMMENTS

    The burn speed myth continues.............

The "Motion Search Precision" option has absolutely NO impact on the final products ability to play. The Motion Search Precision is about how the encoder analyzes the input, not about the bitrate of the output. It is entirely an encode-time thing!

Also, frameserving is about how a program gets it's input. It also does not impact the output files ability to play.
