  1. I recently got a DVD writer for my Birthday present. But havent burned anythin on it yet. Mainly because i havent had the required result from encodin. I have used Panasonic MPEG 2 encoder, but didnt like the Aspect Ratio. I have now tried Nerovision 2, but a disappointin encoded dvd result. What would be the best encoder 2 convert XVID in 2 DVD, and maintain the quality? XVID original file is 1300KBS even though i made the dvd at 4000KBS. This should have compensated.

    So please what programs?

  2. you can't go wront with tmpgenc plus, or CCE. CCE is faster but more expensive and less n00b friendly features. as for the quality, I can't tell the difference in auality between the two, they are bth fantastic.

You will run into aspect ratio problems with all encoders however, if you do not setup the encoders properly. Do more reading on the subject here in the forums. seartch for "aspect ratio"

I would recommend TMPGEnc as well but you must follow a couple of steps to get your desired result. Make sure you convert your Xvid's audio to wav and use that as your audio source in TMPGEnc. Also, make sure you select "Full Screen(keep aspect ratio)" for the video arrange method. You can find that option on the Advanced tab of the settings window.

Damn its a pity, cuz i just converted the avi i had. But ur right the quality of TMPGEnc's much better than the commercial encoders. I made '8000' Kbs dvd, and quality was better than the original. Thanks 4 the 'aspect ratio' tip, it was not squashed. It took 24 hours 2 convert XVID in 2 a high quality dvd ( Usin some tips from here: http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html ).

Should it normally take 24 hours for convertin a 1.4GB XVID file? I had everythin optimum settings and the dvd was still only 4.7GB.

Hey, glad you liked the results. As for the length of your encoding time, were you using any filters? TMPGEnc is notoriously slow but one can never complain about the quality it yields. Two things that can cause slower than normal encoding are slower CPU's(yours might qualify) and the use of filters.

I used VBR 2 pass, so dat took long and the precision time was highest in determin the accuratcy of the conversion. I used quite a lot of filters, at its highest, but 24 hours is still long! I have a pentium 4 proccessor 1.28 GHZ. So its not as good as it can be.

  10. The general concensus around here is "highest quality" is unnecessarily slow, really really too slow, and the "high quality>slow" setting will be MUCH faster and probably do better in quality. you se, highest quality mode is kind of a misn omer, it does it different, slower, but not necessarily better.
