  1. Hello,

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to capture. The reviews for the Canopus ADVC-100 are great but it is a lot more expensive than other solutions.

I also understand that some digibal camcorders can capture from a VCR and send to IEEE 1394. I wonder if anyone can compare these two options - especially on the quality front.

I figure if I spend US$250 for the Canopus ADVC-100, I might as well spend a few hundred more to get a camcorder if the quality is similar.

    Thanks,

    Steven

I currently am using my Sony HandyCam like you are considering. The quality I'm getting is great. I like it much better than my Pinnacle Analog card (which is also working great too).

I just ordered the Canopus and I'll let you know in about a weeks time if you remind me too. Send me a reminder to crjmail@ev1.net and I'll post up the information.

I would stick with the camcorder, but I don't like having it nailed down to the computer all the time. I have about 500 tapes to convert and a dedicated system just for video. I need the camcorder for shooting video so I ordered the Canopus.

  3. When capturing with a camcorder through firewire, what program should one use? With the Windows program, I can convert the picture to AVI, but it is at 25Mbps, which is a darn large file.

Anyone have any step-by-step instructions on how to maximize visual quality when capturing through a camcorder?

    Thanks!
