  2. It creates DVD "compliant" mpegs. It will not creat the VIDEO_TS and VOB files that nero needs to build the disk.
I have found that SpruceUP is very easy to use for simple authoring tasks.

  4. The first reply told you what you asked, but now you're asking another question alltogether. First, what kind of file are you trying to convert? Quality will depend on your original capture or rip. You can also play with the bitrate settings when encoding (see guides). You will import the file with the authoring program, i.e. SpruceUp or whatever came with your burner. That program will create the needed VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders containing the vobs, bup and other files needed to burn with Nero or other burn programs.

  5. My burner came with Nero, but it will only take VOB files. I'm wanting to take quicktime files and convert them. but everything converts them to mpg. I cant seem to make the VOB files. I know i'm doing something wrong, but I dont know what

  6. Ok, first DVD does not equal best quaility. Quaility is all about resolution and bitrate. IF you take a crappy source (say 320x240 350kbit/s mov file) and convert that to a 720x480 6000kbit/s 'DVD' the quaility will be piss poor. With that said:

    1) Get source video
    2) Encode to MPEG2 at desired resolution (720x480, 352x480, or 352x240 are the only DVD supported resolution). Encode audio at 48khz. If using newest verison on TMPGenc create both m2v and mpa files. Other wise encode, then demux MPEG.
    3) Author MPEG (see faqs on left). I like DVD Maestro. Authoring means to take MPEG file/s and convert to VOB files.
    4) Burn Video_TS folder to DVD-R
