    Hi I am trying to learn about burning SVCDs with Nero 5.510. I have burned 2 with a thumbnail menu but when I try to play them in my DVD drive with WinDVD 4.0 the disc does not start and the menu either does not come up or if it does the menu is not accessible. Did I burn the disc wrong or is there a file missing from my computer? Also, the play function does not start the disc. How can I get a disc to play with with WinDVD or start when I put the disc in the drive?
    I am new at burning but I love it

  2. If you go into my computer and select the drive you put the disc into, right click and select explore, you should be able to open the mpegav folder, right click the file thats located in the folder and select open with and the select windvd (or browse for it), this should hopefuly let you view it.
    I dunno...it might work

    You need to add a autorun player, or an "Autorun.inf" to instruct WMP or your WinDVD to automatically play when disk is inserted.

    Aurorun.inf types
    With a player (Saved to route of disk)
    [autorun]
    OPEN=svcd_playr.exe

    Without player on disk

    VCD type
    [autorun]
    open=mplayer2.exe /play /close \MPEGAV\avseq01.dat

    SVCD type
    [autorun]
    open=mplayer2.exe /play /close \MPEG2\avseq01.mpg

  4. I have the same problem. I have tried opening the mpeg file with WinDVD but nothing happens. Similar with the other software players I have on the computer - two of them just crashed in fact. I can open it OK with WMP but screen proportions are completely wrong. I even tried renaming windows\system\iosubsys\scsihlp.bak to .vxd as reported elsewhere on this site, but still no luck. Any other tips?

    If you made a MENU you need to know that A software DVD player will not PLAY a VCD from the MENU with a play command..
    YOU mUST EXPAND THE GUI with POWER DVD or WIN DVD.
    YOU NEED the Keypad ..
    You know the item on the DVD software "on-sceen player remote"
    that has a NUMERICAL KEYPAD

    in win DVD you strike the 1 KEY this launces your VCD

    on Power DVD you need the 1 key and then use the 'CHECK MARK" key only these keystokes will work

    the play button is disbled with VCD menu

    btm5540 is using WinXP which autoplays (S)VCD's via a menu that pops up, an autorun file is not necessary.

  7. Still no luck with this. Pressing one on theWinDVD keypad does nothing. I didn't make a menu for this SVCD (my first and only so far, encoded from mpeg2 by WinProducer), just burnt the .mpg file to CD. It works well on my Pioneer 350, although the sound is not great - many very audible artefacts over music. Is this a common problem or would TMPGEnc do a better job?

    I'm using WinDVD 4.90.3000 which states support for VCD, but maybe I need to upgrade for SVCD.

    Are there any freeware SVCD PC-based players available?

    An autorun you made, which did what you wanted is allways necessary

  9. Just to let you know you are not alone btm5540, I've got the same problem running WinDVD 4.0 and XP Pro, no luck. I can of course "explore" the disc and run "open with" to view the movie with WinDVD, but that kid of defeats the purpose of auotrun doesn't it?

    I found a solution WinDVD did not bring up the menu but Power DVD does and I can even make choices from the thumbnail menu. Just make sure to choose the correct drive from the "select source" button on the DVD player panel. Thanks for all your help
    I am new at burning but I love it
