  1. Most people know that alot of DVD players will play SVCD and VCDs.
But what some some may not know is that some DVD players wont play them without PBC. My DVDplayer(pioneer c503) has PBC built in, so it will play disks with or without PBC.
However my mothers DVD player(Curtis) needs to have PBC on the actual movie because it is not built into the actual DVDplayer.
Now why Im here discussing this is because some ripping groups use PBC and some dont, but NONE actaully state whether they do. I think that these groups should post in their NFOs whether they use PBC or not.
Because for people that have a DVDplayer that does not have PBC(like my mothers) need to extract all the mpegs out of the BIN and then reburn to SVCD to make sure it has PBC.
It would save so much time and hastle for these people if the ripping groups posted in their NFOs about PBC. Then they would only have to go through that trouble with ones that DONT use PBC.

  2. Seems a small thing to complain about seeing you are getting something for free.

  3. I know I am getting movies for free from these groups, and I am VERY thankful for that, its not my fault that some DVD manufacturers cant make their products up to times.
This isnt really a complaint, just kinda a request or suggestion, cause by them typing in "PBC-ON" of "PBC-OFF" in their NFOs is an extra 2 secs out of their lives, and not lke its anything out of their way, they have to type up the NFO anyways, they already know whether the software they use adds PBC or not. On the other hnd, people like me that dont know which SVCDs have PBC or not....take about 20 mins extra to make sure it does.

I am unaware of any way to intentionally add or remove PBC functions in a SVCD. You should be able to ff, rw, pause, stop, skip tracks (all PBC functions) with any SVCD compliant disk when being played back on a SVCD compliant hardware player. If you don't want to make use of these functions you can just turn off PBC on your player.

It seems to me that if you are having problems with PBC functions when playing a SVCD, or are just having playback problems in general, than the problem is either that the SVCD is authored incorrectly or there is something defective or non-compliant about your hardware player. In any case this is not something that can be described in an NFO. If the group knew they were doing something wrong I would assume they would simply fix it rather than just list it in their NFO.

Perhaps it would be beneficial if the release groups simply stated what software they used to author the disks, perhaps then you could find the real pattern ie: anything authored in Nero doesn't work on player x. This is hardly the place to bring this up, however. This site has absolutely no connection with release groups or pirated movies, and if any exists it is unintentional and discouraged. You may want to ask this question on www.isonews.com but I doubt you will get a welcome response and I believe something similar has already been asked in the past.

  5. if you look throught the features in VCDeasy, You can check off PBC or not, which means either burn it on the disk with the movie or not.
I have tested this scenario with my moms dvdplayer
If I burn an SVCD with VCDeasy using PBC on, it will then play in her DVDplayer.
If I bunr the SVCD with PBC off in VCDeasy, then the movie will NOT play in her DVDplayer

  7. BJ_M... If you read the whole topic including my second posting which started with "I know I am getting movies for free from these groups, and I am VERY thankful for that" and in there it also stated "This isnt really a complaint, just kinda a request or suggestion"
Its 2 seconds out of their lives which could possibly save hours for me and probably alot of others. AGAIN this is just a SUGGESTION that I would like ripping groups to atleast read and make thier decision on the situation.
I just want a place that I can be heard by hopefully s ome members of the large rippping scene. If it doesnt work and nothing changes, oh well im not any further off then what I am now. But if they do hear it and do make the changes, woohoo, it will save me alot of time. Its worth a shot is all I can say.
