  1. I'm trying to burn a vcd with the latest Nero but it refuses to write the file, 715MB, on a 700MB disc. Isn't a 700 disc supposed to fit a up to about 795 MB in vcd format?

Nero says that the largets file that I can write is 703, isn't that for a music cd?

    Can any one help?

Are you using Nero's VCD template? Are you sure your file is VCD compliant,an mpg1 file is not VCD compliant.

If the file isn't vcd compliant, it may be trying to re-encode. An 80minute cdr should hold ~80 minutes of vcd. So your 715MB vcd should be just over 71 minutes. If so (and it's in spec) it should burn fine in nero as long as you selected to make a vcd in nero (not svcd or any other option).

BTW the 700MB on an 80-min cdr is for data. You can fit about as much audio as video (in vcd/svcd mode about 800MB).
