  1. I can only find how to rip from DVDs but not from VCDs. Is there some good software for this?

I made a bunch of VCDs and have now lost the original files, so I want to get the video from my VCDs back onto my computer. Thanks

  2. you don't need to rip them all you need to do is put them into your cd-rom and copy the files and place them where you want them on your hard drive

  3. It is quite simple.

    If you...

    (1) Want to simply get standard MPEG files back out of your VCDs
Then all you have to do, is to use VCDGear or CDXA2MPEG (part of VCDImager -- use GNU VCDImager Tools GUI) to convert the "DAT" file on the VCD back to standard MPEG. This is quite quick -- no longer than copying as all it is doing is removing some headers.

    (2) Want to extract your existing VCD into an editable format so you can insert additional video clips / menus / etc. while maintaining the exisiting structures
Then you will have to use CDRWin to extract a CUE/BIN image of your VCD onto the HDD. Then use VCDXRIP (part of VCDImager -- use GNU VCDImager Tools GUI) to extract everything from that image into the component media files plus an XML descripter file of the disc. You can then edit the XML file to change/add/edit the existing VCD structure.

You can then use VCDXBUILD to rebuild your new VCD image. For more on advanced VCD authoring: http://www.michaeltam.com

    (3) Want to copy an existing VCD
The easiest way is to do a simple DAO copy. Most CD burning proggys now will have a "Copy CD" function. The best programs to use are probably CloneCD and CDRWin, but Nero should be fine as well.

    Regards.

...or use VCDGear to "convert" the .dat file to an MPEG file. (Just removing some header info is involved.)
