  1. Okay I give up on this one. I've been battling it for a week now. First I'm new at this so it could be something stupid. I'm trying to covert from VHS (actually SVHS) to DVD. I mostly used the information in http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127563. My problem is when I view it on my Onkyo DV-C600 DVD player the image looks like it's only displaying the top half and the bottom half is where I can’t see it. Here is what I've tried:

    Capture using VDub at 360x480.
    TMPGEnc with various options. Mostly:
    352x480
    Automatic VBR CQ
    2000 low
    4900 high
    80% quality

Then I use DVD Workshop to create the DVD using the Half-D1 option. Sometimes I burn with Nero but it’s the same problem either way. If I use TMPGEnc at 720x480 and then the same in DVD Workshop it does work, but I want to get three plus hours of material onto the DVD.

Am I just missing something or is it something with my player? Actually on that note I do have another quick question. On the http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php list for my player one guy said he got it to work with DVD+RW by using "compatibility mode 2". What does that mean exactly?

Thanks for any help. It’s driving me nuts.

  2. Well after throwing away a pile of money on coasters it turns out the problem is with my DVD player. I tried my Xbox and it looked fine.
