I know there are lots of people out there that have used the same video card and OS that I have and haven't had any problems. But I can't capture anything, the system actually crashes after I used the task manager to turn off MMC 7.1. Nothing happens in virtual dub either. I see the video feed just fine in either program they just don't capture anything. I wanted to download the lasted "supported driver" from ATI, but the setup program doesn't work, so I had to settle for the "special purpose - unsupported driver". I don't know what I'm doing wrong, everything else works except the capture. Can anyone help, I really don't want to go back to WIN ME.

My honest suggestion...!?
Zap your current installation for Windows.
1. Re-install 2k - include WebTV in installation.
2. Re-install printer, Lan-card.
3. Install Via4in1 1432
4. Install memory manager/Cache. Set Multimedia System Cache
5. Install Internet Explorer/Netscape
6. Install Sound Card if not on Motherboard, and do all upgrades to it.
7. Install all Codecs
8. Install Video Card
9. Install DirectX 8 if your Video Card didn't.
10. Install TV Card
11. Install ATI Tweaker. Set Tweaker for Best DirectX performance.
12. Remove Web-TV
13. Re-Install DirectX 8
14. Install Direct Control 5.5
15. Install Vfw to VDM Wrapper
16. Install MMC Reg Tool
17. Now try the Standard VCD capture.
Let me know how it turns out.

you don't need to reinstall win2k. just make sure you install as "standard PC" instead of "ACPI PC".
install SP2 for win2k
install DirectX8
install DX8 video capture update
install ATI win2k driver 5.13.1.192, whether it's latest or whatever don't worry. use this one. (if the setup is messed up, it may be a corrupted download)
isntall MMC 7.1
install DVD 4.1 update (even w/o a dvd drive)
install VFWWDM wrapper if needed
that's all you should really need. from my experience, printer drivers, IE, web-tv is irrelevant in win2k. webtv installs the wrapper in win9x.
if you have a VIA KT133A i'd recommend v4.27 4-in-1 if the newest one causes crashes. make sure your disks show up as IDE in the device manager, not SCSI. if they're mistakenly listed as SCSI, change the HDD controller channel drivers back to the MS provided defaults.
if your standalone can do SVCD, that's what you want to do. with a 700+ CPU (not celeron) you can do SVCD that are as good if not better than TMPG. search the forums, i've written how a bunch of times. you need to remux, and there's a little more if you have a player that uses SDE tags (pioneer is the only big one i think)
