  1. Hi there,
Please , please, please can someone help me.

I recently moved to the USA from the UK and took all my region 2 DVD's with me hoping that I could just buy a new multi region DVD player 'off the shelf'. No such luck!!! I think they're illegal over here because everybody I have asked has been reluctant to help me.

Does anybody know of any way I can get hold of a multi region player over here, or even know an outlet over here that will chip a player?? I've looked at all the hacks on this site, but can't get hold over the types of player that are hackable. I've gone to most of the retailers over here and they don't stock these types of player.

I am comletely cheesed off because I have a huge collection of DVD's that, at the moment, are totally useless over here. I might just as well use them for coasters!!!

Any help that anyone could provide me would be wonderful.

    Thanks.

If you look over in the DVD Player forum, that is in the colum to the left, you can find DVD players that can ahve their region codes changed. Some VERY inexpensive players can have any/no region code.

  3. Thanks for your help Gaz, but I have already checked the DVD players listed on this site for cheats.

I know there are many here that can have their region code by-passed, however, I can only assume that the models listed are slightly later models, as I am unable to purchase any of these 'off the shelf'.

At the moment I do have a DVD player which is a JVC XV502 (I think its the SL model as its silver in colour). There are no cheats for this player at this time. Therefore, its was my intention to simply purchase another one, after looking at all the models that have cheats available here. I made a list of about 20 different models with cheats and then went to various retailers here such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart and also quite a few of the independents, but no one was carrying any of the models that were on my list.

If anyone knows of any DVD players that can be bought 'off the shelf' at this moment in time in the USA, that have a region code cheat, I would be very grateful. Or, if anyone knows of any person or company in the USA that will perform a 'chip' on DVD players, could they put me in touch.

I didn't realise this was going to be such a difficult job. Thanks in advance.

  6. Many thanks to everyone who posted a reply on this thread.

I have managed to buy a hackable DVD player 'off the shelf'.

Just in case there are any other people with the same problem as I had, I would like to share this information.

I bought a Cyberhome CH-DVD 402, from Best Buy yesterday as I noticed there was a hack for this machine on this site. I am very pleased to say that the hack worked just fine and I am now able to play all my DVD's from the UK. It may not be one of the more recognized models, but hey, it works and I use it in addition to my current player.

I've also heard some mention of 'macrovision'. Now I'm not entirely sure what this means, but I noticed from other threads that it has something to do with picture quality. I would like to assure all that the picture quality that this DVD player gives is fine. There is no flickering, or darkening, or whatever is not normal, that I can see.

I hope this helps anyone considering getting one and the best part was, I only paid $75.00 for it.

  7. "Macrovision" is protection so you can't copy DVD to VCR. When you try it, and your machine does have it (as almost all) then picture signal will weaken (go dark) and go back to normal in periodical intervals. Try it with your DVD player that is not hacked...
