I've copied some DVDs on my PC, using DVD Decrypter (and Smartripper), IFO-Edit and using Nero to burn the discs. They play fine on my PC, and my standalone player, but not on my Dad's iMac and iBook. The Macs can read the discs, but the message 'NOT PERMITTED' appears when attempting to play.
Other DVD-Rs (ie not copied from originals) play without problems.
Any idea how to solve this?

OS X.2 has some weird permissions issues.
Try logging in as root, or else running the DVD Player using the "Rooter" program. Or else just playing from Video LAN client. Both Rooter and VLC are free downloads.
You get the same effect from DVD-Rs recorded on the Panasonic DMR-E30.
