    Hi room,

I am not sure if i am in the right forum, but if not i do appologize in advance.

I have Yamaha cdwriter [CRW2100E] and i am using nero software. i have been burning vcd's fine until i bought cd-r with 99minute/900mb [it is called sunpower cd-r] since i want to burn bigger movie/file size. i tried it but my writer would not reconize the 99min cd-r as 99min, rather only as 80min. I tried to change the min to 99min with nero proporties option but it was all in vain. I have a feeling my cdwriter may not support high CDRs and i think it is hopeless but please somebody tell me threre is a hope and there is a way to solve this by manupulating nero or something. I have ezcd platinium software too, i have not tried it with that. Do u think it might work with EZCd roxio's platinum. What cdwriter do u suggest do best to do this job?

    Still learning,

  2. Many 90 and 99min CD-Rs will only claim "80min" capacities. However, as long as you haven't ripped off, they truly do contain enough sectors for the respective capacities. In effect, you are doing a "safe" overburn.

However, you burner must also be able to overburn to that degree... Most newer burners can -- I'm not familiar with your burner however.

In addition, it is not recommended that you do a high speed burn on 99min media as many drives have difficulties towards the fringes of the disc.

Yes, that's ok, almost every Media with more than 80 minutes claims itself to be 80 Minutes long. Just turn on the overburn-option, and it will work. But there is another drawback: With your drive (Yamaha 2100) you will only be able to burn about 90 Minutes, not more. You will find a list of drives and their maximum capacity here:

Sorry, but maybe with an newer firmware there will be a chance.

can most dvd players read disks that have been written all the way out to the 99 min mark? or is there a lot of limitation there as well..?
You win some, and you lose some, and some get rained out...

  6. I remember reading an article on Tom's Hardware on this. My personal experience agrees with their findings.

90 min CDs are read relatively well (up to 90min) on most CD/DVD drives that can read CD-R.

However, 99min CDs appear to be much more problematic, especially at the extremes of the disc.
