  1. hey all,

i tried to add my first part of the fast and the furious subtitled to VCDEasy and the following error message appeared: "576X240 is not a valid resolution for "FILM" enconded sequence".

i'm trying to make a svcd. this error message appears in the main
(S)VCD window, but the file appears in the ISO Files window.

does anyone know what is going on? thanks!

    take care.

576x240 is not a valid SVCD resolution. VCDEasy checks the MPEG's characteristics and tells you that it's not valid. If it's telling you that the movie is "FILM encoded" and it's SVCD MPEG2, then you may also have failed to enable the 3:2 pulldown which is necessary for SVCDs.

  3. thanks sterno.

so, i have to enable the 3:2 pulldown in TMPG, right?

i added subtitles using a virtualdub filter and them frameserved it to TMPG and converted it as mpg without problems.

so, what would you suggest me to do? just fix the 3:2 pulldown thing? and should i fix the 576x240 too? what should it be?

i followed a guide, so it's strange that something turned out bad.

    thanks again and take care!

A compliant SVCD is 480x480. CVD resolution (352x480) also generally works, though VCDEasy will complain. You'll have to reencode your video. If you use tmpgenc with the SVCD NTSC template (SVCD NTSCFilm if you're working with 23.97fps source) and do not "unlock" the settings it should already be set up for 480x480, and loading the NTSCFilm template will also enable 3:2 pulldown for you.

FYI - If your video were already at the right resolution and only needed the pulldown flag set you could just use "pulldown.exe" from the Tools section to set it.

Lua, if you want to encode to CVD and author with VCDEasy, make sure you uncheck "Perform some MPEG compliance checks" in the Main Tab.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

  6. What VCDEasy is telling you is:

"Do you know that you are making a non-compliant SVCD? If that's okay with you then carry on."

You are making a non-standard disc. As such, it has less of a chance of working than a compliant one. As what sterno stated, the framesize for SVCD video is 480x480 for NTSC and 480x576 for PAL. It is probably important that you understand this.
