  1. I have read a ton of posts on what the best "inexpensive" media is, and it appears that accu at 2x for about 78 cents a piece are the best deal. My question though, is it really worth it to go the "cheap" route on Media? I mean, what caught my attention was the DVD+R's at 2.4x I have been using which are Verbatim's, I get at best buy for about $45 for a 15 pack spindle. Best buy has the same exact price for the DVD-R's at 2x, so I choose the faster +R's. Anyway, I noticed that on sites like cdrdvdrmedia, pricewatch, etc...the price for those very same VERBATIM DVD blanks is about 50 cents higher. That made me wonder if Best Buy had those ACCU'S...if they wouldn't be 50 cents a piece or so there. I think the ACCU's are very inexpensive compared to the Verbatim's I have been purchasing, and to me $3.00 is a lot of money for 1 DVD blank. I would really like to get those ACCU's, but I am concerned that the quality is not that good.

Basically, what I am asking though is would there be ANY difference between the ACCU'S compared to the VERBATIM'S? I mean, would there be any difference in the quality of the picture, or the more liklihood of a coaster with the ACCU'S over the Verbatim's, etc? If not, I will put an order in for 100. I really hope there isn't because it's too expensive for the Verbatim's. I appreciate any info on this. Thanks

Verbatium disks are made to a higher standard and are higher quality.

Cheap media is a gamble, it may or may not work.

I personally pay the extra for quality.

I was paying 3 bucks a disk for DVDR's myself awhile ago.

Now I am buying Riteks that burn at 2x for less then 90 cents each even after shipping.

90+ Riteks specifically burned at 2x 0 coasters on the DRU500a.
25+ Princos at 1x with 0 coasters. (like 65-70 cents each)

I have already saved myself over $200.00 in media.

I can't vouch for ACCU though, I have only tried the 2 above in quantity and am quite happy. Only think I MIGHT try is the ACCU blue disks since they have a silk screened finish which I like. But for now I am sticking with Ritek.

Some will argue the quality, but in reality I will be transfering if I even keep my DVDR media to a different format I am sure in a few years.

Time is too short in the technology world to worry about quality in media to me. (To a degree obviously, if the DVDR's I received were all scratched up and half didnt burn right or not play in all my drives I wouldnt be saying this)

If the cheap CDR's I found years ago back when CDR's were still selling for $10 bucks each still works for me now to transfer data from to my new choice of media, I am not that woried about the future with my new cheap media.

As long as you properly store your media, and don't abuse it I would not worry much. Also to note, if you plan on using the SAME burned media daily I might try a comparison because I don't know how they would stack up in the long run. I only use what I burn a few times every couple of months. And for videos once a year possibly. So another reason not to shell out the extra $$'s for me.

Also the name brand media will fall in price as we move forward. So don't worry you can always switch back

    Edit:

There is no difference in video quality btw, it's digital information, it's either working or not. Not like diminishing quality or something.

Also forgot to mention, only order 25 or less at first before you go with media, at least it worked for me. I ordered 25 of the princo's and 25 riteks, right when I got them, tested both out within a couple days then placed an order right away for 200 riteks so I would more likely get something near the same type of quality. (Hoping) and I did..

  4. Order 25 pcs and see if it works for you. If you will look around you might even get it with free shipping. I don't see any reason why to pay $3 instead of $0.80 or so for working media. And yes... it is gamble to purchase ceap media online
