DVDx vs. FlaskMpeg

Which is better quality and less time to make a video cd? flaskmpeg or dvdx?

I don't use either. DVDx is very easy to use and doesn't require 5 or 6 GB of HD space, With Flask you have to rip the DVD before hand, fill your hard drive and make sure you've got about 1 GB left to hold the resulting MPG. speed wise - they are about the same (I always leave encoding running over night so time isn't that important to me). Quality is where they both differ. DVDx is very good color-wise, very close to the original, but can suffer from blockiness. FLask is better but the colors look a little 'washed out' to me, plus there seems to be an annoying 'judder' every second or so, very subtle, but you can see it if you look at the background when you watch a move (there's probably a cure but i haven't looked).

When I copy a movie I use DVDDecrypter to rip it and Tmpgenc to encode it (it WILL read .VOB files, but they're not supported in the file selector, so select 'All Files'). You will have to join each resulting mpeg, but thats not a problem with Tmpgenc. You can download it from this site, along with some very good VCD/SVCD templates. If anyone else knows a better way then Email me, I'm always looking .)

when i open a vob file in TmpgEnc, it says its unsupported! how did you manage to get it to read them? do you need a plug-in?

Tell my computer that?? I have done three DVD's with Flask direct from my DVD drive and one using DVDx

I do like Flask for VCD but had problems with audio out of sync with NTSC-PAL covertions and was unable ti get SVCD to work properly.

DVDx is easyer to set up and its possible to view the output file as you go.

I've never been able to use tmpg to open a VOB file either.

But you can very easily use flask and avisynth to
frameserve to tmpg, and this typically produces very good
results for me. Basicly, you're using flask to read and
reformat the video, and then using tmpg to do the encoding
part.

I use version Beta 12i (0.11.27.111), simply rip your .VOB, and select as video source (select <all files> in file selector), you will have to Batch Encode all the VOBs and join them. There is a problem though, because you can't select the language, I sometimes find that the resulting mpeg changes to another language part way though the movie (i don't know why yet, thats when i change to another method!!) but the results are very good!. One last thing, are you running TMPGEncVFP_Install, this might help!!!
