  1. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can do to play SVCD's on my JVC XV-s42SL. The player seems to read the disc and the timer starts to show time lapse but the screen stays on the main JVC title page.

Can this machine play them or do I have to invest in another machine?

According to the DVD players section this website it should play SVCDs fine. Are you sure you created a valid SVCD? Have you been able to play it in a friend's standalone player? I would suggest downloading a SVCD sample image from: http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcd , burinng it to CD and test with that sample. If that doesn't work I'd try different media, or a CD-RW disk.

  3. The SVCD's that I have were "accuired" from a friend and are screeners. I have borrowed a mates machine, Philips 622 and they play fine. I have noticed on my machine that if the display shows 2 chapters then my machine won't play them. It plays normal VCD's without any problem. The display says "PCB" but as stated when I put in a SVCD nothing happens. I've read with various other machines you have to press stop a couple of times then the 1 button on the remote. Don't know if this will work on mine?

Yes, you can try hitting stop a few times, then the 1 and see if that helps. It can't hurt anything. I'm not trying to insult you, but have you tried hitting play? Especially, after it displays PBC. I did have a DVD player at one time that you had to manually hit play, but only after it displayed PBC.

  5. It displays PBC when playing a VCD. When I try a SVCD it just shows CD and the timer starts?
I have tried different combinations of buttons including pressing play to no avail. any other ideas?
