Hello all. I hope I hit the right forum with this question. I have some old VHS tapes that I'm converting over to SVCD. I'm using (with fantastic success) the program TMPEn to remove video noise from the degraded images. I'm hoping to remove some of the audio degradation also. The original video (home video) was shot using a Hi8 video camera & the camera's built in mic. I'm sure I don't have to explain how junky the audio can be. The video was also shot in a room where echo was a small problem. Anybody know where a guy can find some good software to help clear up the audio track?
O.K. I'll get really personal & explain the reason. The video that's so important to me is my wedding video. I can't even understand what my father-in-law said during his toast. It was a really nice toast & I'd really like to save it for the years to come.
So, now that you know how personal & important it is to me, you can see that I'll be excepionally grateful for any help you can offer.
Thanks,
Tip DS

Audacity houses a noise removal option in it's effect menu.
It allows you to sample a section of noise and will remove
it from the whole file. Asking it to remove too much noise
will also effect the audio you may not want changed. The
program is free at http://audacity.sourceforge.net I have
used all the major audio programs and this one has an excellent
output with a minimal learning curve. Good Luck -
Thanks for the input. Do these tools work well with videos, or does the audio have to be stripped, converted to .wav then re-combined with the video? I've seen alot of that going around, but I never seem to get the audio back in proper sync.
Thanks again,
Tip DS -
You will have to master the art of "sync", sorry. If you want
to spend some money a program like Vegas it will of course
import your video and audio and allow you to choose which
audio app to edit you audio in. Once edited, in your case, noise
removal, it will put the audio back exactly where it came from.
Sync will be automatic. Good Luck again
