OK- I'm in the market for a DVD changer. I found and bought a Koss KD720 5-disc at Meijer for $59.99 (great deal or so I thought). It played like the first minute of every chapter then skipped to the next. Needless to say I had it for less than 24 hours.

I have been to the DVD player page- but most of the reviews deal simply with people getting VCD/SVCD's to play (which I could care less about-sorry). All I care about is will it play DVD-R/RW!!!!

I am looking at two models:
    Apex AD-5131 (3 disc)
    Pioneer DV-C505 (5 disc)

Any suggestions regarding the two or others? Any known issues with DVD-R/RW?

    Thanks in advance!

I've got the Apex, and love it. Best $80 I ever spent.

Plays cheapo Princo no problem, and of course better brands.

Plays VCD, SVCD, at nonstandard bitrates/sizes. Plays VOBs off of a CD, and even includes an EQ for the MP3 player.

Have you checked the DVD Players section? For users comments?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I checked out the DVD Players Section but was not happy with what was mentioned in terms of DVD-R/RW compatibility- so I have been looking for a wider range of comments from people that have used either player to play DVD-R's or RW's.

Also- I hear a lot about Princo media, but I am not familiar with where to buy it. I have been using Memorex -R and -RW. The -R's have never burned right in either of my burners. I then switched to a brand from Office Max called K Hypermedia. I have had no problems with this brand and they cost around $1.50-2 for a DVD-R. I have also used Verbatim and Imation with little or no problems. (I know- off the topic paragraph)

    Thanks for the help.

I have the Pioneer and I love it. Plays all VCD's, SVCD's on all types of cheap media. Auto changes discs, smooth and quiet. I don't have DVD-r so I can't tell you from experience but I'll check the manual later. Don't suppose you're anywhere near Vancouver, BC?

The only media I've had trouble with is memorex cd-rw. My computer refused to accept 4 out of a pack of 5 and the one that did work was crap.

Thanks for the suggestion- I am leaning towards the Pioneer- it is only $30 more than the Apex and play 2 more discs. Plus, it advertises that it plays DVD-R.

Sorry- I live very far from Vancouver, BC- but my aunt lives just outside Vancouver if that helps!

If the Pioneer is only $30 bucks more, I'd have to choose that one. Over the years Pioneers DVD players have proven to be top notch, and a 5 disc at that price is a steal, get the Pioneer.

I snagged my Apex because it was only $80. Purely price motivated.

You get can Princo's from Meritline. They sell 'em as DVDPro's in combo packs with cases and free shipping. But you'd be better off with something like Ritek's which are only a few pennies more. In the DVD media pages most people list the shops and price where they bought their media from.
