  1. What is this? What does warez mean?

    Do NOT give warez.

Do NOT link to warez .

    Do NOT ask for warez.

Do NOT provide information how to obtain warez.

    Do NOT advocate warez.

  3. Unfortunately, "warez" here also seems to apply to copying films and TV shows. It seems ironic that VCDHelp gives you the information to illegally crack the CSS coding on DVDs (via Smartripper, etc) yet doesn't want you to copy something that doesn't belong to you (ie. rental movies).

  4. WAREZ here basically refers to illegally accessing intellectual property.

As for the "irony", there isn't really any. Except that some people seem to take it personally when it affects their nefarious activities...

All sorts of first person shooters can train you on how to be an effective killer. That doesn't mean that murder shouldn't be illegal and also doesn't mean that first person shooters should be illegal either. You can use the game for legal purposes as well (e.g., entertainment).

The tasks involved with copying a DVD can be used for both legal (e.g., backup stuff you own, transfer to another medium) and illegal means (theft of rental material). The information itself is harmless and legal. What you do with it may not be. All we ask is that you not discuss stuff that may be harmful to the forums, and that includes, warez.

Well said. The techniques discussed here enable legitimate backups to be made of material you already own, and non-copyright material. Whether the DVD companies agree that this is legitimate is another matter, and I really care little for what they think.

Almost certainly people use the same techniques to backup that which they don't own, but as with all such speculation, it is essentially idle. 8)
