im taking a downloaded movie to play on a DVD TV set

HI so far i have failed at playing any of my down loaded movies on a go video dvd player ...This web site looks great and im sure to find the answer here..I m printing out most of the instructions on the subject of VCDs....If someone could tell me what the best instrustions are to follow in turning a downloaded movie into a movie that can be played on a DVD player it would be great..Oh and my DVD player does play VCDs and SVCDs...I was told that i need to put mgeg2 and change the compression on the sound to make it work ..Thank you Mark
