  1. I've currently got a Pioneer external DVD player w/ vcd/svcd support...Recently I've noticed the vcd reading quality going down...My question is this...would a external vcd player where the laser is specifically made for vcd's(cdr's) play them better then an dvd player which a sorta general laser??

  2. There's probably no good answer for this. Stand-alone VCD players use a CD drive mechanism. Whether this will last as long or longer than a DVD drive mechanism really depends on the quality of the drive used than anything else.

  3. ya I understand that...My thought was this...if you had a two systems...one was a external dvd player w/ vcd support and one was a exertnal vcd player (assuming they are of the same quality) would the vcd look and sound better in the vcd only player rather then the dvd player due to the fact that the laser is specific for cdr's rather offering support for it

  4. Does your VCD look better on a CD-ROM drive or a DVD-ROM drive on your PC?

It makes no difference as long as the drive can read the disc properly.

What will make the difference is the quality of the decoding circuitry used in the player and the absence or presence of filtering.

Some low end VCD players make VCDs look pretty bad. Some high end VCD players make VCDs look brilliant.

Some low end DVD players make VCDs look pretty bad. etc.
