Hi,
I'm wanting to get a dvd rom, I found a Toshiba & Pioneer,
both 16X, both the same price.
Will they both read cd-r & cd-rw's?
is one better than the other for ripping?
which one is the best?
would appriciate any advice.
Thanks

As an owner of the Pioneer 16x DVD Player, I would highly recommand you the get it instead of the Toshiba, primary reason would be the UDMA66 the drive has, and as far as I know is the ONLY drive which has it, others only have UDMA33, which if you connect to a HDD, will slow down the performance of your system.
the Pioneer reads all popular media formats, and you can make it region free (I don't know about all the Toshiba models, some can and some can't at the moment).

I bought a pioneer 16X drive from frys $99, I agree it is fantastic and it rips everything fast without any errors.
Everyone that I have talked to all agree the pioneer is the best drive out there under $200. -
200$ ?? when on earth did you buy it ? you can find the drive for about 54$ on PriceWatch, I bought it about 8 months ago, and then it cost me about 80$.
