I have camputed about 5 minutes of video. THe format is avi and the files are huge. the format is 640/480 25fps. What is there a good tooll out there to conbine them and once there incode it. Looking for something that has a demo or is free.

You can join the avi files together using virtualdubs append avi, this is assuming the bitrates, framesizes, framerates, etc are the same. Once you have done this you can convert to mpeg using TMPGEnc which is free if you are creating mpeg1 for VCD. mpeg2 for svcd or dvd has a 30 day trial. TMPGEnc also has a merge and cut tool, so if you wanted you could encode the mpegs seperately and then merge them.
