i'm using CladDVD and it seems to rip the VOB sets fine but when it starts to frameserve, it stops immediately and the outputted file is like 200Kb. i'm stumped!

Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

why don't u just use dvd2avi to frameserve the vobs into tmpgenc. it only takes an extra ~20 min. to extract the .wav file and create a .d2v project file.
also, you can use dvd2avi's forced film feature to encode your rip at 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown to increase your quality over 29.97 fps + interlaced
