I have some raw avi files take from my minidv. I want to create a vcd to be viewed on a computer only. Therefore I must deinterlace. How do I do this in tmpgenc. I see where under settings-advanced I enter my video source type but how do I make it so my output mpg vcd file is deinterlaced (progressive).

  2. VCD is always progressive, it cannot be interlaced. You do not need to deinterlace to make a VCD, simply feed the encoder your interlaced file, and it will be converted to VCD. The process of frame resizing will make any video source, interlaced or not, the new VCD frame size. Tmpgenc uses both fields to make a new frame for the VCD file, so there is no need for deinterlacing. Simply select the VCD template and start encoding.

Sometimes you do! If your source is interlaced you may need to use one of TMPG's de-interlace filters to produce a good-quality VCD. I have had to use this with the (very rare) PAL interlaced DVDs I have come across. Start with the *even field* one and work your way through to see what works best. I suggest you use the *source range* setting first to experiment with a short clip.

  4. Just wondering but...

I live in the UK where all the DVD's are PAL and quite a lot are Interlaced. Is this why, sometimes when I make a VCD it seems to jerk once a second?
